SUMMIT One Vanderbilt
Ascend a Hunger-Games-esque elevator 1400 feet high and behold epic views of the city. Each floor had a different theme to explore (mirrors, bubbles, clouds, etc.). We went during night when the city was lit up but it’s also a great attraction during the day (and maybe sunset!) Very touristy and kinda pricey but definitely the place for photo souvenirs.
American Museum of Natural History
This is where they filmed Night at the Museum! Lots of animals and people and plants and rocks and bones (although none of them came to life). We spent about 3 hours here but you could definitely spend more or less time in each of the exhibits. The museum prompted fun conversations about Zoo Tycoon and Ice Age. Felt a bit like a school field trip as an adult -- I learned a lot!
Little Island
A public park made up of what looks like little pillars of garlic coming out of the water. It’s near Chelsea Market and the High Line, and it’s great to visit right before sunset. There are lots of couples and families to people watch. There’s also an amphitheater, lots of pretty plants, and winding paths and stairs.

More things to do
Eat at Chelsea Market, walk the High Line, eat at Tompkins Square Bagels, go biking, visit the Strand bookstore, see a show on Broadway, eat at Stardust diner, WFH in Capital One Cafe in Union Square, explore Washington Square Park, go to the Oculus and World Trade Center, jog in Central Park...
There’s a million things to do in New York, and I could certainly come again and have a totally different experience. Next time, I would love to explore more of Central Park, walk the High Line again, and see a new show on Broadway!
